Zumba fitness has been around since early 2000. This fitness program was developed by Alberto "Beto" Perez from Colombia, South America during the 1990s. It was by accident that he was able to develop this now famous fitness program.
He was an aerobics instructor in his city when one day he forgot the music he usually uses for his class. He was forced to use the music he had on hand. Lucky for us he had Latin salsa and merengue music. He improvised the moves to the beat of the music and thus ZUMBA was born. Everyone in the class enjoyed the routines and it became the most requested and popular class in the fitness facility he was teaching in.
Beto moved to the USA and began teaching this program in Miami. Its popularity spread like wildfire and in 2001, he partnered with Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion and trademarked the name Zumba. Today, there are over 20,000 licensed instructors all over the world teaching and sharing the knowledge that you can have fun getting in shape with Zumba fitness.
